Roving Library Project of TEAM Lib
-
Hi. I’m Karen Panol, Program Manager of Edukasyon para sa Kinabukasan, Inc. (Education for the Future, Inc.)
TEAM lib is the latest (10th) library Eduk, Inc. is setting up. Like Aklatang Pambata in Paltok, TEAM Lib is being established without an institutional partner to fund the set-up so Eduk, Inc. is raising all the necessary resources from its network of friends. Since we are still doing physical improvements and resource generation, we have a Roving Library Project we will implement with the start of the school year (July-December 2010) to (1) promote reading and literacy among the nearby daycare centers, elementary schools, barangays and youth centers (i.e., a home for abandoned children), (2) raise awareness regarding the soon-to-open TEAM Lib and (3) recruit library members/goers and volunteers from among the Roving Library Project beneficiaries/clients and partners.
The funds will be used to buy storybooks, production of modules and activity sheets, school and art supplies and bayongs/bags for 10-20 volunteers who will rove around the area to facilitate storytelling sessions and learning activities.
TEAM Lib is in Lucena City (where I and two other Eduk, Inc. members hail) and is named after the late father of one of Eduk, Inc.'s founding members. We are currently in the process of recruiting volunteers for this and hope to hold the volunteer training mid-June and to have the Roving Library Project launched before the end of June.

Shelf Space: Stack and Read
-
I am Vice Principal Alvez of the Dr. Sixto Antonio Elementary School. We are one of the schools heavily hit by the floods accompanying Ondoy (International Name: Ketsana). Thank you for the book donations you have previously given. The children are very grateful! We are continuing our rebuilding efforts with the school equipment and supplies. Most of our supplies were carried away or destroyed by the flood. Currently, we would appreciate any help in providing a two-level bookshelf for our library which would help the younger kids easily reach the books they would like to read.

Sibol Kids Discover Science
-
Hi. I’m Mai Ventura, Program Manager for Sibol in Gawad Kalinga’s (GK) Payatas Molave community.
Sibol, which means “to grow”, is the community’s program for the 3-6 year old children. I joined the program in March 2009, driven by the goal to open a Sibol School for school year 2009-2010. On July 1, 2009, through the generosity and support of the community, volunteers and donors from building the school to creating learning activities for the kids, the dream became a reality as we welcomed our first batch of Kindergarten I and Kindergarten II students.
As we gear up for School year 2010-2011, we again ask for the support of friends in continuing this valuable work. Particularly, we are asking your help so we can provide each student a textbook he can use throughout the year. Currently, we only have one set and the teacher photocopies the pages, which the students need for class.
